Email-to-SMS converts an email into an outbound SMS. You email the recipient’s
phone number at mail.heullo.com, and the body becomes the message. Mail is
delivered to Heullo as soon as it arrives; there is nothing to poll.
The addressing model
- Put the number in To or Cc, not Bcc.
- The Subject is never sent as part of the SMS.
Authorised senders
In Settings -> Email-to-SMS, add the email addresses allowed to send for your
organization, then save them. Mail from any other address is ignored and gets no
reply.
An authorised address must belong to exactly one organization. The same
address on two organizations makes routing ambiguous, so the message is
rejected rather than guessed at.
Security code
Anyone can type any From address into an email, so an organization can require a
security code as a second check.
- Organization admins turn Require a security code in the Subject on or off,
and can reveal, copy and rotate the code. Other members see whether a code is
required and should ask an admin for it.
- Put the code anywhere in the Subject. Copy it exactly, including the dash
(format
XXXXX-XXXXX).
- Never put the code in the body: the body is sent as the SMS.
- Rotating the code stops the old one immediately. Everyone sending Email-to-SMS
must switch to the new code.
- Repeated wrong codes lock the sender out for a while.
Your domain must be authenticated
Your domain must pass SPF or DKIM aligned with your From address. Ask your
email administrator to check this. Unauthenticated mail, and mail from unknown
senders, is ignored and gets no reply.
Statuses
The activity list shows the most recent messages with one of these statuses:
Billing
A message sent this way is charged per part to the organization that owns the From
address, exactly like a message sent from the web app. See
Credits.
Messages arriving this way are tagged with the EMAIL2SMS channel, so you can
isolate them in Reports and
SMS Management.
